Description
The aim of this study is to undertake a population based study of the outcome
of childhood arterial ischaemic stroke (AIS), cerebral venous infarction (CVI)
and haemorrhagic stroke (AHS) in the South of England. Outcome will be measured
in five domains: motor function, cognition, behaviour, quality of life &
participation, and clinical recurrence.

Case Definition
A child (i.e. >1 month and <16 years)with an acute focal neurological
deficit which is shown on brain imaging to be secondary to focal cerebral
infarction or haemorrhage in an arterial (AIS or AHS) or venous (CVI) distribution.
Inclusion Criteria
All children who meet the case definition and who are resident in the South
of England (bordered on the North by the counties of Hereford, Worcester,
West Midlands Metropolitan County, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Peterborough
Unitary Authority, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk) during the proposed period
of recruitment and follow-up.
Exclusion Criteria
Children who do not meet the inclusion criteria.
